Safety and disclaimers
Koppig shows this the first time you open it, and keeps it in Settings › About:
Koppig is a race planning and logging tool, and it can fail: phones die, get silenced, or miss notifications. Always know the official race start time and follow your race director. Koppig doesn't give medical or nutrition advice, and you're responsible for your own health and fueling decisions. If you feel unwell, get help from race medical staff.
Here is what that means in a bit more detail.
What Koppig is
Koppig is an iPhone app for planning and logging a backyard ultra. It works out when each yard starts from the start time you give it, sends alerts before each start, shows a countdown on your Lock Screen, logs your yards and check-ins, and compares what you log with targets you set.
It isn't the race's official clock or timing system, and it isn't a medical device.
Koppig can fail
Koppig runs on your phone, and phones let people down. A few ways an alert might not reach you:
- The battery runs out, or the phone turns off.
- Silent Mode is on, so alerts only vibrate, or a Focus mode holds them back.
- Notifications for Koppig are turned off, or iOS delays or drops one.
- Your watch doesn't show phone notifications while it records an activity.
- The start time in Koppig is wrong, or the race started at a different time and Koppig wasn't told.
- Koppig itself has a bug.
Use Koppig alongside your own watch, the race clock, and the people around you, not as your only way to know when to start. Before race day, run through Plan › Race setup, send a test alert with your phone locked, and try a demo race. The guide's troubleshooting section has more.
The race director decides
Know the official race start time, and follow your race director and the race's own clock, bell, or whistle. If the race starts late or early, you can tell Koppig ("Did the race start on time?" during yard 1, or Plan › Adjust actual start time later) so its yards and alerts match. When Koppig and the race disagree, the race is right.
No medical or nutrition advice
Koppig compares what you log with the hourly targets and food list you enter. It doesn't tell you what, how much, or when to eat or drink, and it doesn't interpret how you feel. Its notes restate your log, like "Carbs behind your plan 3 yards running."
Set your targets with your coach or dietitian. Your health and fueling decisions are yours.
If you feel unwell
Get help from race medical staff. In an emergency, call your local emergency number. Koppig doesn't check on you, so don't wait for it to tell you something is wrong.
Your data
